Blue skies, ocean waves, and bikinis—these have become synonymous with Kenting's beaches. South Bay, White Sand Bay, and Jialeshuei are all classic spots in the hearts of travelers, each beach representing the beauty of Kenting's ocean. Now, let us introduce you to a different side of Kenting's beaches: Fengchui Sha (Windblown Sand). The coastline of Fengchui Sha offers a unique landscape—countless plastic bottles scattered along the shore. Among them, you can find trash from different countries, carried here by ocean currents and washed ashore by the waves.

What Impact Does Marine Debris Have?
Every year, the world produces around 300 million tons of plastic waste, and about 8 million tons of that ends up in the ocean. The types of trash vary greatly—discarded fishing nets entangle and kill marine life, and drifting plastic bags resemble jellyfish, which sea turtles consume and cannot digest. Then there are microplastics, invisible to the naked eye, that get eaten by marine creatures and eventually make their way back to your dining table.

Rethink
In today's world of sleek packaging and convenience-first living, it's inevitable that we generate a lot of single-use plastic waste—straws, plastic bags, and containers top the list. If we continue using plastics like this, the trash on our coasts will never go away. So what can we do to change things? Aside from reducing our use, we can seek out alternatives and live the life we want in a more sustainable way.

What's Beach Cleanup All About?
Beach cleanups can be both a daily workout and the best way to learn about marine debris. Long stretches of coastline await you to discover hidden “treasures.”Besides the variety of trash items, their origin is often the most eye-opening—places you've never visited are sending “gifts” to your doorstep every day. The growing variety of washed-up items has already covered the shoreline.Through cleanups, we can restore the coast to its former beauty. And the collected trash isn’t just for recycling—we can give it new value. These unique materials have inspired many artists to create meaningful works.
