Hengchun Ocean's Call & Heart Ocean's "Dive into your heart!" Promise

Heart Ocean Diving Center's mission is "Dive into your heart!", touching your deepest connection to the sea. We are based in the heart of the Hengchun Peninsula (near Kenting, Houbihu, Wanlitong). This area has world-class coral reefs and is home to precious marine life like green sea turtles. But this beautiful sea faces serious challenges.
Every [Heart Ocean Guardian Action] is our strong commitment to 'Corporate Social Responsibility' and 'Environmental Sustainability', and follows our vision: "Dive from heart to ocean, share the love for life!"
[Knowledge Corner: Common Marine Debris Threats in Hengchun Waters]
- Abandoned Fishing Gear (Ghost Nets): These lost nets and lines are silent killers. They keep trapping corals, sea turtles, and fish, causing injury or death.
- Plastic Products: From bottles and bags to microplastics, marine animals eat them by mistake. This blocks their digestion and toxins build up in the food chain.
- Tourism Waste: Trash left by human activities directly harms the beauty and health of habitats.
This isn't just trash; it's a direct threat to ocean life.

During underwater cleanup, bad buoyancy control can stir up silt, damage fragile corals or bottom-dwelling life. Heart Ocean instructors will teach you how to use breathing and weights to stay steady, work carefully, and minimize disturbance.
Gifts & Rewards for Cleanup Participants
- Eco-Friendly Gift: All morning cleanup participants get a "Dive into your heart!" eco-friendly canvas bag.

Your Questions, Expert Answers: Event FAQ
Do I need a diving certification for the July 16th morning scuba cleanup?
▼Yes, for safety and quality, morning cleanup participants need a valid Open Water Diver certification or higher. This activity requires safe diving knowledge and comfort in the water. Also, good buoyancy control is very important to protect the marine environment.
What are the requirements for the afternoon PADI AWARE Specialty course?
▼This is mainly a knowledge development course focusing on learning ocean conservation facts and action plans. The afternoon session is mostly in the classroom.
Can I sign up for just the morning cleanup or just the afternoon AWARE course?
▼Yes, depending on your time and interest, you can choose to sign up only for the morning scuba cleanup, only for the afternoon PADI AWARE Specialty course, or sign up for both for the full learning experience. Please use the correct sign-up links.
Do I need to bring my own cleanup tools?
▼For the morning cleanup, Heart Ocean Diving Center will provide special mesh bags and gloves for cleanup. The tools we use are chosen to safely and effectively collect common marine debris while minimizing secondary impact on the environment.
Is the marine debris data collected during the event really useful?
▼Definitely useful! Standardized data recording is key to understanding pollution status and sources. This data is given to research institutions or environmental groups here and abroad. It's used for scientific analysis and policy suggestions – a vital force for pushing change at the source. The afternoon AWARE course will discuss data use more deeply.
How familiar are the Heart Ocean Diving Center instructors with the Hengchun sea area?
▼Most of our instructor team members have been teaching diving and guiding in the Hengchun area for many years. They have deep knowledge of the seasonal currents, terrain, common marine life, and potential risk spots at various dive sites, allowing them to provide the most current and local judgment and guidance.
If the weather is bad on July 16th, will the event be cancelled?
▼If sea conditions are unsuitable for the morning dive, the cleanup activity will be postponed or cancelled. If only the afternoon weather turns bad but doesn't affect the classroom session, the AWARE Specialty course might still be held as planned. Details will be explained in the event info sheet and participants will be notified in advance. Safety first is our top priority.
